Are you looking to complete and endurance event and train the right way taking out the guess work? Are you looking for solid, personalized numbers based real tried and true methods? I was, and I learned I came to the right place as soon as I filled out the interest form. I signed up for the RMR, VO2 Max, and Blood Lactate because I wanted to complete my first Ironman 70.3 event. I contacted Chip Henry because I have seen his accomplishments over the years and I knew he would have valuable experience and knowledge to pass on. The testing took place over 2 appointments at his home office. Chip explained what each value meant, including how much “fuel” I would need and how to best utilize it to maximize my endurance and performance. In addition, he helped me understand how heart rate zones work and showed me how to train within those zones to develop a good base and build my aerobic endurance. Throughout the training (20 weeks) that led up to my event (Ironman Silverman 70.3, 2014), he developed a full training plan. He tracked progress and tailored each workout to my own progress. On race day, Chip was there to see me from the beginning and through to the finish line. I could not have asked for a better coach and I would most definitely recommend his service to anyone! Communication is key! Any questions or concerns I had were addressed, sometimes even before I knew the situation would arise. When it’s all said and done, if you want to succeed, and if you are TRULY committed, Chip and It’s Your Choice Training will help you accomplish those goals. My overall time was (bib 373) 6:37:28 and that was the story behind those numbers.

I’ve always been an active runner but only short distance normally a three to five mile run but never beyond six miles. Over the last several years I followed my brothers (Chip Henry) achievements (Ironman, marathons, team running, etc.) but it was only in 2013 I felt the desire to go beyond six miles, maybe a half marathon or maybe even a full marathon and spoke with my brother about it. Well of course he jumped all over it and told me he would provide me with instructions (coaching) on what I would need to do to be prepared to complete a full 26.2 marathon. He jumped right to the full marathon with the goal of us both running in my first ever marathon. Once I agreed we selected the marathon we would run in (end goal in mind) and he then developed my six month schedule of activities providing me with guidance on how I needed to train each week in order to be able to get to the finish line on December 8, 2013 in Sacramento, CA. He told me if I followed his schedule I would not only finish but would finish with a respectable time. I hit a few bumps along the way but he adjusted may activities and kept me on track. Following his coaching I completed my first half marathon on September 15th and my second on October 12th in preparation for my 26.2 mile marathon in December. I felt good about my training but didn’t think I would do as good as I did. I was shooting for a time of five hours and thirty minutes but Chip told me I would do better if I remained healthy. That cold December morning arrived. I was in Sacramento getting ready to run my first full marathon. I was nervous but felt ready to go the distance. I don’t run with any tracking devices so I wasn’t really sure about how I was doing on time but assumed I was on pace to complete my run within six hours. During the marathon I followed Chip’s advice on what I should consume along the way and how I needed to pace myself. I did just that and was both happy and surprised as I rounded the corner heading towards the finish line, the clock was still under four hours and thirty minutes. I now wanted to finish under four thirty so I kicked it in and finished at four hours and twenty four minutes!! My brother told me I would do that time before we even started that morning and he was right. I believe that would not have been possible without the guidance and coaching from my brother Chip Henry! I’m a 26.2 mile finisher and I had a great coach to get me there.

I used Chip Henry”s coaching services to prepare for my first Olympic distance triathlon. He was a valuable resource for multi sport training and helped me improve greatly. Chip has extensive knowledge in all three areas of swim, bike and run, as well as nutrition and strength training. If I ever train for a 1/2 Iron event, or any long course endeavor, Chip will be the first call I make to prepare.
